We all know that feeling this time of year, Christmas is just around the corner and soon 2019 will come knocking.
We start to reflect back on the year that was and we can all learn something. We learn from experience and rarely do we get it right the first time yet all too often it is this time of year that we start to berate ourselves on what we should have done better.
Feeling overwhelmed is something that can creep up on us so easily, and for those of you who are small business owners or passionate about their work purpose this is something we do not always recognise until it is too late and we are just not functioning optimally. Here are some strategies that I use to minimise the overwhelm but allow me to continue to bring out the best of The Fit Collective.
Go offline - Social media is such a huge component of my business and personal life this is just simply my reality. It is how I engage with my community at The Fit Collective and the wider fitness community but for a natural introvert like myself every now and then I give myself sometime ‘off’ social media and just focus on what is happening around me in the present.
Practice some self care - Everyday I do something that is just for me. That could be getting a coffee on my own at my favourite cafe or at a new one, going for a walk, getting a sweat on, reading or writing - it could be anything but it is all for me. This took me a really long time to realise I needed this time for myself and frequently in the past I would feel guilty about having the opportunity to do this everyday. Practicing a little self care allows me to rejuvenate everyday so I can give more energy to those around me.
Learn to say no - It is ok to say no or to walk away from something that simply does not apply to you any longer. This is something that some people can struggle with but once we let go of what is not aligned with our goals we can shift our focus toward something else. This does not mean we ignore responsibilities but we look for opportunities where we can make room for things that will allow us to progress in life.
Move - I know we hear this one a lot but exercise is so much more than just potential aesthetic changes. Move to promote good health, we all operate better when we sleep better, remain hydrated, have stronger bodies (less injuries), a clearer mind and the ability to apply resilience to everyday life. All of these different aspects of health can be promoted through regular good quality exercise.
Be kind to yourself, we are all human.
