Health and fitness can be really quite simple.
Eat relatively well, drink enough water and get enough sleep, move everyday and lift heavy things a few days per week.
As a society, we have a tendency to over complicate things and seek out instant gratification for our ‘goals.’ We live in an era where information is so readily available and with various view points, it is so easy to get caught up in the perceived complexity of it all.
Let’s keep it simple.
At The Fit Collective, we care about what our clients get out of our sessions. We care about their movement patterns, their mental state as well as their progress and this is something I am so incredibly passionate about.
I may only see our members 2-3 x per week so during that time I like to maximise on the time I have with them. Strength training for us is the foundation of our programming, without a solid foundation the efficacy of other movements can be compromised. Regardless of your goal strength training will provide you with that solid foundation.
Strength training not only will improve strength (duh) but also consider; increased metabolic capacity, ability to improve power and speed, injury prevention and improves recovery, strengthens ligaments / tendons, improves bone density (a big one for women!).
Yes, you SHOULD lift heavy things.
Ladies, it is unlikely you will get bulky from lifting weights. We do not have the same hormone make up as men do for this to occur.
Learn to lift with correct technique, learn how to progress and communicate with your coach. If you are new to strength training and don’t have a coach, my suggestion is that you do seek one out, a coach will be able to monitor your progress, strengths and weaknesses to program accordingly.
