I have been right where you are.
The temptation to sign up to that summer shred program is stronger than ever as we lead into a hot Adelaide summer.
I am here to ask you to check in with yourself. Ask yourself a few questions before to sign up and pay yet another never to beaten price to get the body of your dreams in 8 weeks (eye roll).
FIGURE OUT WHAT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY
Is your happiness dependent on how you look?
If you are looking to build your strength, move better, feel more empowered, strong and resilient this can all take time and a well structured program that allows for some flexibility in it’s approach.
WHAT WILL YOU DO ONCE THE ‘CHALLENGE’ IS OVER?
Summer Shred program complete. Now what?!
Do you sign up for another, because you could do with losing another 5kgs.
Should we increase our activity and decrease our calories again? That’s a sure way to SHRED fast. Again.
Let’s quickly think about sustainability. Consistent and sustainable results over big numbers, short term, unsustainable results are what we are looking for. Do you want to continue seeing increases in your performance over 3,6, 12 months or do you want to be in the same position repeating the same cycle again every 8 weeks because that what a shred is all about?
WHAT IS YOUR HEALTH WORTH?
When it comes down to it, good coaching is an investment.
A good program is one that is well thought out, has a purpose behind it and is one that is sustainable. A good program should include high weeks and deload / rest weeks, a good coach issuing such program is one who is able to discuss your goals with you and can tailor the above program to your specific needs.
We have somehow confused the idea of health as one that includes strict dieting, constant HIIT or circuit training all packaged neatly into an 8 week summer shred program.
Sure it may get you results, but at what cost?
So before you go ahead and click SIGN UP again on another summer shred program, ask yourself what it is you are really looking for. If you are looking for sustainable results with professional guidance then this is what you need to seek out. There is no one size fits all so find yourself a coach, a gym, a program that will work for you and one where you’ll continue to see progress beyond 8 weeks.
